Symptoms

"Mental health affects everyone. The most common problems are stress, anxiety and depressive disorders. Depression is a life-threatening [condition] with a high mortality rate. Research shows that many people who suffer from depression do not get adequate diagnosis or treatment."
(GOOD STRESS VERSUS BAD STRESS By Kasia Szymanska. www.depression.org.uk/main/pdf/kasia_stress.pdf.)

Stress, anxiety and depression are a significant problem affecting up to 1 in 4 people at any one time.
(Source: www.depression.org.uk.)

All teachers should be aware of stress symptoms, anxiety symptoms and depression symptoms so that they can recognise symptoms in themselves and others. Managers and employers should be pro-active in looking for symptoms in their staff, eg by carrying out risk assessments for stress.
